Arriving at ASY was quite exciting. I was going to meet my new boss and colleague’s whom I am going to work with for the next six months. After having a nice relaxing chat with Richard ( that’s the big boss) I got introduced to the rest of the team. All very nice people. My first assignments were helping the deckhands on the boats, so that was cleaning the yachts and making checklists for the warren 80 ( one of the superyachts) to see what has to be replaced and what is missing or not working correctly. After doing that I got sent to another bay ( at circular quay , you pronounce it as key) together with Mendel who is my Dutch colleague . We had to clean one of the superyachts from the inside. So cleaning the sheets, rinsing the boat and making sure every was clean so the owners could use their yacht the next day. I have to say the first day was pretty impressive, an overload of information and I got to get used to those fucking ozzies with their swearing haha ;)! After talking to Mendel about ASY and how he is as experienced it , I really got the feeling that I am doing something awesome. At 4 o clock in the afternoon my first day was over. I walked back home to Annandale ( a suburb in the center of Sydney ) and had a nice cold beer. Compared to my Dutch style of doing loads of stuff all at the same time with friends in the evening this calm and no planned evening was new to me. I’ve got to get used to that because I’m always a busy bee.
Day 2)
My second day started early, I can’t figure out why yet, but I keep waking up at 06.39 day after day. After having a shower and breakfast I head of to work again. It’s like 20 minutes walking from my temporarily home. After that I explained Richard I had to do a few stuff for school , I got the assignment to go with Mendel to pick up some rubbish on one of the yachts that ASY manages. Also we had to make a small delivery to do. I keep getting amazed by the size of these yachts, I mean in Holland I only see boats and no yachts. This yacht was approximately 35 meters long and 5.5 meters high. And still Mendel says to me that these are one of the smaller boats. Wow, like omg and wtf all together. How big can these yachts get?!
After doing are chores for Richard I helped Eduardo an Italian, and ned a guy who comes from Fiji. They are both deckhands ( the are in charge of cleaning the yachts and to make sure that there is not too much maintenance to do) At a certain moment Richard called me to go with Sean and Mendel to pick up one of the superyachts that was in the south of Sydney. At that moment I wondered how we would get that yacht back. Well there is an easy solution. We would drive it home of course. So that’s what we did. My first real trip on a superyacht. I have to say , it was pretty fucking awesome. I can relate to people now who love to be on their boats. After we picked up the yacht and brought it back to our marina yacht harbor I had a chat with my colleagues. So that was another exciting day with some new stuff I haven’t done before. I also got a bicycle from Richard, so I could get to here faster than walking. That was nice! So after that it was 5 o clock and I went home for again a few beers together with my housemate Mark. I have to say that I am getting used to live in Australia. I really like the weather even though it could me a little bit cooler ( it has been 34 and 38 degrees and till now) Fuck haha. Besides the hot weather it is pretty awesome here. The ozzies are really nice people and im getting used to my new environment.
Day 3)
This was the day that Ajax had to play against PSG from France for the champions league. I had to get up at 06.30 to be sure that I could watch the game via a stream I use on the internet. Yeah I know , some of you would say I’m crazy , I am, I’m crazy about football. So after an exciting match I went on my bike to work. A little bit grumpy cause Ajax lost with 3 to 1, but he. Life goes on ( I really don’t mean that, it sucks that they have lost). My first job today was help Eduardo clean the warren 80 (yacht). After having some fun and cleaning the boat I got bored for the first time. That is due to the agreement Richard and I made. The first week I will just be looking around, listening, doing all kinds of tasks and help everyone. All of this so I could know what the company does and what the company stands for. So that’s not so bad but I would rather be busy doing something else. The profit of not doing something now , is that I could write my daily journal. Shit happens !
Tonight I’m gonna view some rooms where I can stay permanently so wish me luck!!
Day 4)
Goodmorning folks! How are ya? This is the first day that I have gone to ASY and it was raining in the morning. I thought that only happened in the Netherlands. After having a lazy morning with not a lot to do , I started to scroll through some websites about superyachts and after that I started looking for a place for me to stay the next 6 months. This is a quite easy day for me and I quite like it haha. After having lunch with my colleagues Ilona and Mendel I got a job to do by Sean who is the yacht manager. Also he is my boss concerning my project of school. Commercializing a private superyacht into a superyacht that will be used in the charter business. After making some spreadsheets with information containing safety equipment and so on. Sean said he had enough of these kinds of assignments for me. We have to make sure that we and especially I know everything that is needed for this yacht. Getting everything together.
Day 5,6,7)
The first weekend of since I started working. That was a nice feeling. Just after the first week with a lot of new information and new faces and names to remember it was time to chill out and make some plans for the weekend. Friday I went out with Nick ( colleague) , Mendel ( colleague) and Ilona ( also a colleague ) that was my first experience of clubbing in Sydney. After sleeping at Nicks place I went back home to do some cleaning. After that I went to town and I have to say saturday was a great day with lovely weather. 27 degrees and a cool wind. So after being lazy after the first night out I went to town to buy myself some new flipflops, 2 pairs of shoes and 2 tanktops. Easy peasy at the K-mart, that is just so unbelievably cheap. Saturday evening I went out again , that was fun. I made some new friends and went home on time, because on Sunday we (my colleagues and I) were going to the beach! We went to Clovelly beach, that takes like 20 minutes by bus from the city center. That was amazing. A little bay with rocks and sand where you could lie on. After chilling and swimming at the beach for a couple of hours we decided to go for a barbie. So after buying all of the food we went off to nicks place and had a bbq with the all of us. After showing them how fifa 15 works ( yes I did WHOOP there asses) we had a few beers and we called it a night . So after that I went back home and enjoyed a nice night of sleep.
Well this was my first week folks, My next story will be written in a other style. Probably will be written just before Christmas !
Cheers buddies :)
